Installation


You can either install a fresh Ubuntu Muslim Edition or convert a standard Ubuntu installation:

Install Ubuntu Muslim Edition from CD

:!: Follow these steps if you don’t have any operating system installed on your computer

CD 1

Download and burn the first CD (live CD):

When your system is installed, download and burn the second CD:

To install it:

  • go to “System-Administration-Software sources”
  • click on the “Third Party Software” tab
  • click on “Add CD-ROM” and insert your CD
  • click on “Close”

Then open a terminal window (Applications→Accessories→Terminal) and type in:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install aptoncd-metapackage
sudo aptitude upgrade

Install Ubuntu Muslim Edition from DVD

Download and burn the DVD:

Convert a standard Ubuntu installation

:!: Follow these steps if you already have installed Ubuntu on your computer

You can convert Ubuntu Gutsy (7.10), Feisty (7.04), Edgy (6.10) or Dapper (6.06) to Ubuntu Muslim Edition.

Download this file (updated: 19 sep 2007) on your desktop. :!: Re-run this script if you have installed ubuntuME before this date

Open a terminal window (Applications→Accessories→Terminal) and move to the Desktop directory:

cd ~/Desktop

Make the script executable by running this command:

chmod u+x install-ubuntuME.sh

Then run the script with root privileges:

sudo ./install-ubuntuME.sh

You will be asked to accept the Java license and Zekr terms (disclaimer and Quran translations licenses). The script will install: islamiccal, ubuntume-artwork, ubuntumewcc, minbar, zekr, sun-java6-jre, flashplugin-nonfree.

Then the configuration process will ask you if you want to :

For each question answer yes (y) or no (n).
