You can either install a fresh Ubuntu Muslim Edition or convert a standard Ubuntu installation:
Install Ubuntu Muslim Edition from CD
CD 1
Download and burn the first CD (live CD):
Learn how to verify that your CD download is ok: HowToMD5SUM
Learn how to create a CD from your newly downloaded file: BurningIsoHowTo
Then follow this documentation to install it.
CD 2
When your system is installed, download and burn the second CD:
To install it:
- go to “System-Administration-Software sources”
- click on the “Third Party Software” tab
- click on “Add CD-ROM” and insert your CD
- click on “Close”
Then open a terminal window (Applications→Accessories→Terminal) and type in:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install aptoncd-metapackage
sudo aptitude upgrade
Install Ubuntu Muslim Edition from DVD
Follow these steps if you don’t have any operating system installed on your computer
Download and burn the DVD:
Learn how to verify that your DVD download is ok: HowToMD5SUM
Learn how to create a DVD from your newly downloaded file: BurningIsoHowTo
Then install it as a standard Ubuntu CD (documentation).
Convert a standard Ubuntu installation
Follow these steps if you already have installed Ubuntu on your computer
You can convert Ubuntu Gutsy (7.10), Feisty (7.04), Edgy (6.10) or Dapper (6.06) to Ubuntu Muslim Edition.
Download this file (updated: 19 sep 2007) on your desktop. Re-run this script if you have installed ubuntuME before this date
Open a terminal window (Applications→Accessories→Terminal) and move to the Desktop directory:
cd ~/Desktop
Make the script executable by running this command:
chmod u+x install-ubuntuME.sh
Then run the script with root privileges:
sudo ./install-ubuntuME.sh
You will be asked to accept the Java license and Zekr terms (disclaimer and Quran translations licenses). The script will install: islamiccal, ubuntume-artwork, ubuntumewcc, minbar, zekr, sun-java6-jre, flashplugin-nonfree.
Then the configuration process will ask you if you want to :
- update your GRUB splash and usplash pictures
- change your GDM splash screen
- change your Theme
- change your wallpaper
- change your Firefox toolbar theme
- configure your screensaver
- update your login sound
- install Dansguardian and Tinyproxy and configure them to filter web content
For each question answer yes (y) or no (n).
